Last weekend was probably my most rigorous one ever - I clocked 10km on Fri by heading up to Bt Timah Summit on a whim, kayaked for 9km with the fam on Sat and played badminton with them on Sun. Phew. The last activity was requested by the monkies and hand to heart, the wifey and I wanted to say 'No' when they first asked...because our old bodies were aching like mad!
But since young, we had made it a point to spend as much time as possible with them because we know they grow up too fast for our liking. Now that the 2 boys are in their teens, getting them to go somewhere with us is always a challenge. So the fact that they wanted to play badminton together, of course onz lah! I crawl there also can. 😂
I will never ever look back on my life and think, "I spent too much time with my kids." Because as they grow up, the cold truth is they need us less and less but the problems they face get tougher and tougher. Suddenly, an ice cream cannot make every problem go away. So while I may be of less help as they learn to solve problems on their own, I want to let them know that they can always look to the wifey and me in providing emotional support. And that starts with me giving my time to them, no questions asked. (Or aching bodies, for that matter 😅)
